Bonnie Springs - Old Nevada

Who would think you'd find a Peacock in the middle of the desert. At Bonnie Springs you will.

About 5 miles west of the strip, down Charleston Blvd you will enter the Red Rock Canyon. Another 5 miles you will find Bonnie Springs, Old Nevada and a Peacock.

When you find the entrance, a two lane highway will take you right into Bonnie Springs Ranch. Oh, if you see any mules along the road say hello and if they say hello back, turn around and go back to the hotel, you either have heat stroke or to much to drink.

Mules don't talk, but remember what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

You will come to a dusty parking area, the front of the building will have a old time train, information about shows and a couple of "old stiff dudes". As you can see the ladies had little impact on Pops, maybe he was petrified.

As you enter the Ranch you'll find Peacocks in the middle of the desert. I'm sure they didn't get their road maps from AAA, man did they take a wrong turn.

Entering the Park

Entering the park you see more peacocks, ducks, hens and geese. For the most part they run free and tolerate human traffic, especially the ones with food.

They have a restaurant, hotel and rodeo area, none of which we visited.

We went early (8:30am) when it was cool , it was about 95 degrees, that's right 95..

The restaurant seems popular, people used $10.00 in gas to get a $5.00 breakfast, that's Vegas Baby.

Back at the ranch I was attempting to feed the friendly little animals along with some straw for a Hen. These animals are smart, they took two steps and knew I didn't have any food. In fact I think the Hen gave me the finger. I believe he only has three toes.

We moved toward the rear of the ranch where there were more   Peacocks, some live stock, a big steer and some roasters . It was 9:30 am and that crazy roaster was just waking up, a Vegas roaster is useless for the break of dawn

We had quite a show from Miss Peacock, as you can see she was showing her stuff. I bet she was quite the catch when she was young. Her other friends were missing a few feathers. Not unlike humans when we get older and start losing hair.

It was getting late 10:00 am, we had to get back for the buffet by 11:00 am so we could pay for breakfast, but get the lunch menu. A little tip about Vegas buffets.

It's a Wrap

We were coming to the end of our visit when we saw a pond with Fish, Swans and a sun bathing Turtle. They say a Dog has the life, but the Dog has nothing on the Turtle. That dude has the life, my hero.

At the exit a friend of ours spotted a animal he wanted to take home, a Hog (motorcycle), I told him we could take a picture, but the Hog had to stay.

All in all it was a good day we said goodbye to the lost Peacocks, the Hens and friends. Pops was still a rigid old fart so we just smiled and wished him a good day. We did make the buffet by 10:45 am.

If you come to town give Bonnie springs a call at: 702-875-4191. Their website is www.bonniesprings.com. There website has a lot more information about the daily activities. We just ran out of time (the buffet you know) - something a little different for a visitor to see.
